Celebrating Lunar New Year 2026, the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) presented a series of festivities themed “Ride to Luck” (Join the Journey, Catch the Luck), blending the spirit of optimism, prosperity, and cultural harmony.
On this occasion, Titiek Soeharto expressed her appreciation, noting that although the celebration was held in a simple manner, it remained vibrant thanks to the enthusiasm of visitors coming from various areas.
“It’s not only the Chinese community here, but all the people of Jakarta are here,” said Titiek Soeharto, Chairwoman of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).
Through the collaboration of SCBD Niaga Area, SCBD Park, and SCBD Weekland, the celebration not only showcased the vibrancy of Chinese traditions but also highlighted cultural acculturation with local heritage, particularly Betawi culture. Lion and dragon dances were presented alongside Betawi traditional performances, creating a shared space that reflects Jakarta’s diversity. The event featured a 30-meter-long Naga Liong and the symbolic release of 9,988 sparrows.
“I would like to wish a Happy Lunar New Year to the Chinese community celebrating the year 2577 Kongzili. I believe it is wonderful to hold such events and parades here, especially as they involve many MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises),” added Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana when met on the sidelines of the cultural parade in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The celebration is also aligned with the Jakarta Provincial Government’s program titled Jakarta Melting Pot: Harmony in Diversity, which promotes tolerance and urban tourism.
“Through the theme Ride to Luck, we invite the public to begin a new journey this year with optimism. We are proud to present the harmony of Chinese and Betawi cultures coexisting in a modern area such as SCBD,” said Ananta Pribadi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
This year, the Lunar New Year and Cap Go Meh celebrations feel even more special as they coincide with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan 2026. This moment stands as a symbol of cultural harmony and diversity.
